Lorex Fusion is a way to build one security system from two kinds of cameras. A Fusion recorder accepts wired cameras and Fusion Wi-Fi cameras on the same recorder, so you can use cable where it is easy and wireless where it is not. Here is how it works and who it suits.
The short answer
Fusion suits homes and small businesses that want the reliability of a recorder with wired cameras, plus the flexibility to add wireless cameras later. A Fusion recorder gives you both in one app and one place to store footage.
What Fusion does
- One recorder, two camera types. The Fusion recorders below support 16 cameras: 8 wired and 8 Fusion Wi-Fi, or, on the 6TB model, 16 wired or Wi-Fi.
- Wired where it counts. Run cable to the spots where you want the most dependable recording, such as the driveway or the front of the house.
- Wireless where cable will not reach. Add a Fusion Wi-Fi camera to a detached garage, a back corner or anywhere cabling is hard.
- Easier wireless setup. Lorex describes a revamped Fusion onboarding experience for fast, easy wireless camera connections.
- 12MP on the newest models. The Fusion 4K+ Ultra HD recorders support 12MP recording, which captures 50% more pixels than standard 4K.
Is Fusion right for you?
| You want | Consider |
|---|---|
| A simple, dependable wired system | A standard NVR system, or a Fusion system if you may add Wi-Fi cameras later |
| A few cameras and no recorder | Stand-alone Lorex Wi-Fi cameras, which save to a microSD card |
| Wired cameras plus a few wireless ones | A Fusion NVR or a Fusion system |
| The newest 12MP detail | A Fusion 4K+ Ultra HD 12MP NVR or system |
When you add a wireless camera, look for “Fusion Wi-Fi” in the listing and confirm that the camera works with your recorder before you order. Not every Wi-Fi camera connects to a recorder.

Do Fusion cameras need a recorder?
Yes. Fusion Wi-Fi cameras connect to a Fusion recorder. If you want a camera with no recorder, choose a stand-alone Lorex Wi-Fi camera.
Can I start with wired cameras and add Wi-Fi later?
Yes. That is the idea behind Fusion. The recorder supports both, so you can add Fusion Wi-Fi cameras later where cable is hard to run.
How is Fusion different from a standard NVR?
A standard NVR works with wired IP cameras. A Fusion NVR accepts wired cameras and Fusion Wi-Fi cameras on the same recorder.
Are there monthly fees?
The Fusion recorders in this guide store footage locally and are listed with no monthly fees.
